In an effort not to lie to our audience, we
didn't actually stay or even make it to Tallahassee, but instead, set up camp at a
beeeeaaaauuuuutiful campground in northern Florida called Ginnie Springs. Well off the
beaten tracks of Interstate-75, we arrived (unfortunately) just after sun-set. Thanksfully
they still welcomed these late-night stragglers! Being
our first campout, we fired up the gas lantern and went to work on the tent. Hunger was
setting in and with only a few twigs and small timber, we settled for canned tuna, dowsed
with olive oil. Yum, yum :) The saltine crackers brought out a unique contrasting flavor
of the moist, tender, white tuna ... let's be real, it was a low-budget, bottom of the
barrel meal, but we were glad to have it.
Ginnie Springs, with, "over 200 wooded acres,
nestled along the banks of the scenic Santa Fe River," offered a gorgious wake-up
call with serenades from dozens of birds. Falling asleep, however, was a bit of a
challenge with hundreds of bull frogs shouting their best matting calls, and crickets
competing for airtime.
The waters are crystal clear and many campers spend the
day scubba diving and rafting through 70-80 degree waters. The water is so clear and
clean, Danon Water Company bottles it fresh from the river. |
