SANTA FE, NM

...
Beautiful blue sky Santa Fe, we arrived in the afternoon in time to walk around the plaza and browse through the endless Southwestern shops and galleries in downtown Santa Fe. The classic style of adobe buildings are clustered together in a sort of maze like fashion. Canyon Street is the place to be to see all the local artist's work, a must see.

We went into the 18th century Spanish Church that is right in the plaza to see the miracular staircase. So the story goes, a group of nuns needed to build a staircase to lead up to the choir loft, but had run out of money. Out of the blue a carpenter arrived having traveled many miles from Europe on his way to California. He agreed to help the nuns out and built this exquisite spiral staircase, which defies engineering logic. He used no nails and no center supporting beam like all other spiral staircases.

We stayed with Ellen's Aunt and Uncle up in the mountains of Santa Fe. Her Aunt Ann has had a succesful career in the art arena sculpting beautiful bronze sculptures that she sold in a local gallery. Her Uncle Mike is a retired surgeon that now consults in his field. They have two daughters Ashley, who both live in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Ashley just finished her masters in Education and Danielle (at right asleep) just graduated from college with a degree in Art. Ann and Mike live the good life in the quite hills of Santa Fe riding horses and enjoying the beautiful sunsets on their front porch every night. You can see a picture of them to the right hugging Ellen.

We had a wonderful visit with them frequenting the local hot spot restaurant, Harry's Roadhouse. We loved it so much we went back twice and a third time to take-out dessert for a final night at home. Ann cooked a delicious chicken meal (see recipe on recipe page) that Frank devoured two helpings! Following the meal we enjoyed an after dinner drink out on the front porch watching the sunset. Every night we would listen to Michael Savage on the radio that got our minds churning and our patorism enraged. We are now craving that radio show being on the road.

We also attending a bible study at their local church. Ann and Mike are very active members of their church and our true witnesses to the word of God. We found our conversations with them very enlightening, in addition stimulating. Ann loves a good political discussion! Overall it was a very relaxing and rejuvinating time mentally, physically and spirtually.
