PORTLAND, ME

...
Maine is a gorgeous state that’s not very developed with big pine trees rolling over the mountains next to a deep blue ocean. It’s a gorgeous state to drive through. Supposedly there is an abundance of moose in Maine. We were on the look out for them, but unfortunately no sightings.

We stayed with old time friends of the Loughan’s, the Langatees. Frank has many fond memories of growing-up with this family in Jersey. The Langatee’s are a very giving and heartfelt family. It’s the classic Brady Bunch story, where the parents remarried and joined to families into one huge one. With all those kids, the parents even adopted three additional foster children.

Frank and I had a blast playing endless games with the foster children and Erica, Mrs. Langatee’s daughter, of “poor man rich man” or in other words the infamous drinking card game in college “a-hole”. Erica taught the children the “PG” version of this game. Erica just recently had a baby girl, Rachael, who is such a doll and extremely smart for her age. She definitely got it from her mama. In other words the Langatees have got a full house, which keeps it fun. I don’t know how they do it, but somehow we even managed to get fed for dinner that night before a nice prayer. They’ve got there own system there that seems to work flawless.

The next day Mrs. Langatee took us out to this awesome eatery right on the pier that you can order a delicious lobster dinner from an outdoor window. We sat out on the pier and ate that succulent lobster while visiting with each other. No where else can you do that, but Maine. Afterwards we went to the famous LL Bean outlet mall. After camping so much on our trip, we really appreciated all the nice gear dreaming about our next x-country trip. There were tons of outlet stores on that strip. Although we weren’t in the mood to do much shopping it was still fun to look around and get a Ben and Jerry’s ice cream.

Downtown Portland is quite quaint. There is an old section to the city that is very similar to Boston. It is a cute place to walk around and try various restaurants and bars. But, by the time we got there we were pretty tired from the day that we didn’t do much walking around. Regardless, it’s a beautiful city right on the ocean and a great place to vacation.
