LOS ANGELES, CA

...
On our way up the coast from San Diego, cruising along Route 1 hugging the beach, we stopped in for a quick bite in Laguna Beach for a Fish Taco ... you gotta do it when you're in Southern Cal. It wasn't long thereafter when we were driving through Manhatten Beach and rolling into LA. We made a Bee-line for our friend's house (they live in a mansion ... with several other couples).

Matt and Lynn Lyon, good friends of ours from the days in Washington, DC, have since moved to LA to pursue doctoral degrees. Matt is studying to be a Chiropractor, and Lynn is studying for her Sociology degree. Their hospitality was overwhelming and they put us up for 2 nights in their totally awesome estate! :)

Our first night there, Ellie cooked up our new favorite meal, Aunt Peggy's Chicken Enchilada's, which you can find on the recipe page. We filled our bellies and enjoyed a glass of wine over some fascinating religious and political chit-chat before we ran through our life updates. You know, friends must know all that has happened!

Day two was awesome. We started out with a 10 mile bike ride up the Santa Monica beach. From there, we were off to Hollywood, though not to stake our fame. We first drove to the top of Mt. Hollywood and snapped off pictures (still to come) of the famous Hollywood letters on the side of the cliff. After a relaxing walk through a bird sanctuary, we headed for Rodeo Drive. Let's just say, there's a grotesque display of wealth in their front yards - perfect lawn manicures ... enough to make Frank's Dad jealous!

We ended our afternoon stroll through Beverly Hills with a mocha. Don't be fooled, this wasn't your ordinary mocha, but a top of the line brew with rare beans specially hand-picked from the tropical islands of Hawaii! The place was called Kona Coffee and has been rated the top coffee in the world. They recommend drinking the coffee black (but our sweet toothes wouldn't allow no chocolate) because these beans don't have acidity. It's like drinking a good port.

That night, we took in the local Mexican flavor of El Cholo, highly recommended by everyone in town. After feasting there ourselves, we'll fully back the recommendation (see more details on the Restaurant Guide Page).

Matt and Lynn accompanied us two hours up the coast to the beautiful town of Santa Barbara. We walked on the pier, ate so much pizza that our stomached rebelled on us, and toured downtown shops before heading to the bathroom ... or whoops, we meant, heading up the coast to continue our trip! Santa Barbara was another Must See town.
