They say it's the place where Dreams Come
True. Without a doubt, Disney World offered just that. Driving into this new world, we
were torn between the Magic Kingdom or Epcot ... and at the last second, where the road
forked, our pick-up truck swerved left toward the famous ball in the sky (Epcot). It was a game of tug-and-war with the ticket office. So many options, so much
money, and so many "so-called" investments to be made in terms of purchasing
tickets. Should you ever go, or go again, don't get swindled.
In the end, we settled on a day in Epcot, a night pass to
Pleasure Island, and a second day trip to The Magic Kingdom (Disney World).
A few major high-lights included:
- Around the World: If you've ever been to
Epcot, you'll know about the "round the world" portion of the park. Around a
huge lagoon, we traveled the world and explored various countries including China (with a
360 degree movie of the gorgeous landscape and culture), to France (where we sipped
champagne and ate delicious chocolate éclairs by beautiful water fountains in the plaza).
- The Land: New age cropping research
center where we took a boat ride through green-houses and explored alternative methods of
growing and harvesting crops to steer away from using pesticides and other methods that
harm the environment (although we were very disheartened by the tremendous waste Disney
produces daily with plastic forks, cups, etc. with no recycling options).
- Imagination 3D Show: In a 3-Dimensional
movie rendition of "Honey I Shrunk the Kids", we were mesmerized by the realism
of the show. We even found ourselves swatting the air inches from our faces as the
3-dimensional images screamed toward us. They show was complete with air-vents which felt
like mice nipping at our feet.
Over at Disney World, here's our top 3:
- Space Mountain: totally rocked! This main
roller coaster at Disney was
all-indoors, and totally in the dark. The only thing you could see were
stars which made one feel like they were launching into "Hyper-Space" like in
Star Wars! The unexpected sudden turns and ups-and-downs gave the ride an awesome
sensational feeling.
- Haunted House: Ellen's life-long fear of
the Disney Haunted House came to an end, FINALLY, as we entered it this time at age 25.
When she was 3, nightmares were of no short supply. But all that has laid to rest as she
successfully overcame the trauma once and for all (see picture to the right).
- XS Adventure: This ride, if you can call
it that, made us feel like we were actually experiencing the movie "Alien". The
realism of the ride basically scared the living daylights out of us both. DO NOT, we
repeat, DO NOT bring small children with you on this ride ... but it was really cool
(we'll leave it at that).
Pleasure Island - for those over 18 - this is the place
to be come nightfall (Do we sound like an infomercial or what???!!) But seriously, it's a
great place for the grownups. We had a blast celebrating New Years at midnight and hitting
a variety of clubs ranging from Jazz to Techno. Only those over 18 can enter the island
and it's a great relief from the stroller-congested streets of Disney. Oh, and there's no
open-container laws. You can stroll from bar-to-bar leisurely carrying your drinks :)
Over all, the Disney adventure was totally worth the 2
day stop. We really got caught up in the whole Magic Kingdom theme and are
looking forward to getting back there ... say 10 years from now (with a few extras of our
own perhaps).
Closing thoughts? Hmmmm ... or should we say Yummmmm ...
you must try the smoked turkey legs. They're barbaric, but absolutely delicious ... like
butta baby. |
